Start a New Tradition for Christmas: The Giving Manger
If you’re looking for a family tradition that focuses on giving to others and you’re not into the elf on the shelf – this is a cute alternative, that focuses on helping others.
Where did the original idea for The Giving Manger come from?
As the authors began to raise our own families, we often felt like the true meaning of Christmas was getting lost in the hustle and bustle of the season. They wanted to start making the season more about giving and showing kindness to others.
Remembering a wooden manger from our childhood, we wondered: What if we could teach our kids to prepare the manger through acts of kindness? A piece of straw would be placed in the manger each time someone did something kind for someone else. Our kids loved it! And we loved seeing our little ones excited to give! That simple manger shifted the focus of our Christmas.
What started as a tradition for our family quickly grew when we told friends what we were doing. They wanted to do it too! That’s when we put pen to paper, wood to the saw, and clay in our hands to create a book, manger, and baby Jesus—a complete tradition to help families focus on giving and the real meaning of Christmas.
A LOOK INSIDE THE BOOK
Celebrate Jesus's Birth
Each Giving Manger set includes a picture book that helps children get excited about loving and serving others, just as Jesus did.
Giving to Others
The story begins with a father telling his children that Christmas will be a little different this year. Instead of waiting for gifts under the tree, this year they”ll offer gifts to Jesus by serving and helping others.
Random Acts of Kindness
Though the children are unsure at first, they soon find joy in serving – and see others respond with excitement, too!
Preparing the Manger
With each act of service, they add a piece of straw to the manger, preparing a place for Jesus to lay on Christmas morning.
